American logistics giant United Parcel Service (UPS) has applied for a patent of blockchain-based technology to track parcels worldwide.
The application “Autonomous Service Selection System and Distributed Transport Database” describes a method that includes a variety of different types of data contained in a distributed registry.
Among other things, blockchain will contain data on parcel destination, intermediate points and scheduled delivery time and method.
Also, UPS plans to use several distributed registries, not just one. “This would allow tracking of different parcel types.
Every type will be separated and we will be able to use different smart contracts related to parcel delivery services”, – UPS representatives say.
